AP* SPANISH LITERATURE
Marcela Holland
history

Marcela holds a BA. Degree in Spanish and Microbiology, a California Secondary Teaching credential, and post graduate work from the University of California at Berkeley. She has been a participant in the Science teaching program of the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, the Language teaching program at Hayward State College, and the California Foreign Language Project at Stanford University. Marcela has been an AP* Biology and AP* Spanish Language/Literature teacher for more than twenty years. She has been an AP* Consultant for the College Board* Western Regional Office for more than a decade and has conducting seminars sponsored by the College Board* in the Western region of the United States. Marcela has been a reader for the AP* Spanish Language and Literature examinations since 1986. She has conducted numerous teacher training seminars for FLANC (Foreign Language association of Northern California), California Foreign Language Association for the state of California and SWESTCOLT association in the southwestern region of the United States.

She has been a presenter and program director of the Stanford AP* Spanish Seminars for the past eighteen years and the Bellevue, Washington AP* Seminars for the past six years, and the AP* Summer Institute by the Sea in Palos Verdes, CA for the past five years.

Marcela is a former teacher from Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, Ca. and has been a Department chair, Mentor teacher, and AP* teacher during the past thirty years, with the Mt. Diablo School District. She is currently teaching at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Ca.

Marcela would bring to you a wealth of experiences after teaching Advanced Placement* courses for many years, by sharing her expertise, you will have the opportunity to learn how to build a successful AP* program and further enhance your current teaching practices and strategies. She has always maintained the philosophy that every student is capable of participating in an AP* program and the benefits and rewards for both teacher and student are immeasurable.

  • Overview of the new AP* Literature Exam
  • Mock readings of the essays from the 2010 AP* Lit exam

  • DAYS 3-4
    La edad media: caracterílsticas de la época

    A practical session on best teaching practices for reading, writing and reviewing literary works of poetry, short stories, and novels. ( This a sharing and reviewing session) Bring a sample of your “best practice teaching method” of any work from the AP* required reading list.

    For students taking the class for university credit: Participants will write a unit-lesson teaching one literary theme across genres and literary periods, using two or three works from the AP* Spanish Literature list.
