session outline
Course Description:

This course will focus on best practices for helping students master the essential concepts and methods of AP* Statistics. We will share resources for assessment, technology, projects, and AP* exam preparation. In addition, we will examine issues related to organizing and administering the course, such as student selection, pacing, and sequencing.

Course Objectives:
Participants will:
  1. Examine effective instructional strategies for teaching AP* Statistics.
  2. Deepen their understanding of statistical concepts and methods in data analysis, study design, probability and randomness, and statistical inference.
  3. Utilize technology to promote statistical thinking. Develop facility with using the TI-83/84/89/Nspire and computer software to manage, describe, analyze, and generate data.
  4. Explore a variety of ways to assess student learning.
Preparing for the Course:
In order to get the most out of our time together, please do the following before you come to the first class meeting:
  1. Download a copy of the AP* Statistics Course Description and read it.
  2. Download the AP* Statistics Teachers Guide and skim or read it.
Note: You can download these documents from AP* Central: apcentral.collegeboard.com.
  3. Generate a list of questions that you would like to get answered during our week together. If possible, e-mail these to me ahead of time!
  4. If you have taught the course before, bring a “best practice” handout to share with your colleagues.
